TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The House voted the orange as the official state fruit today.
Supporters of the Key Lime, green with envy, tried to get it at least recognized as the source of the official state pie, but alas, that effort was fruitless.
The move to recognize the orange was driven by a group of fourth-graders in Sarasota, who noticed that there wasn't a state fruit.
While the kids who pushed the bill couldn't be there today, a group of fourth-graders from Trinity Catholic School in Tallahassee filled in and took up their cause. Members of the class showed up at the Capitol wearing orange T-shirts with the word "orange" emblazoned across the front.
Supporters of the lime were a bit sour.
