Tampa, FL-- Steve Yerrid's sports room in his Tampa home, would rival some museums.  There are pictures, autographs, baseballs, bats, and helmets everywhere.  And the room is dominated by the New York Yankees.  The historic franchise is also the featured team in Steve's book, "The Making of a Championship Heart."

Steve was asked by he chose the Yankees.

"100 years of winning," explained Steve.  "When an organization continually wins and is continually associated with champions, you've got to look at that organization's emphasis... and in this case, George Steinbrenner was a winner... on the field and off the field."

Steve said he had unbridled access to the Yankees.  His longtime friend, George Steinbrenner, let him inside the team like few have before.  He interviewed dozens of current, and former, Yankees... looking for the traits that make a person a champion, a winner in life.

"I spent 2 hours with Don Larson, in his hotel room," said Steve.  "I talked to Yogi Berra in his museum.  Johnny Damon was great, ARod, Jeter, Posada... Mariano Rivera, we had to break up the interview, he wanted to talk so much.  Robby Cano, I knew he was going to have a breakout year, but I didn't know he had a breakout heart."

In his interviews, Steve Yerrid came up with 18 components that make a championship heart.  The common thread seemed to be, successful people find a way to make a difference in the lives around them.

"That's what this book is designed to do.  Do I feel great about it?  Yes.  Do I think George would have liked it?  I know he would have liked it."
