(News-Press) -- One of the biggest black bears in the Florida history books was captured recently in Lake County, sedated and relocated.
620 pounds, the bear is the second largest ever recorded in the
Sunshine State, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission. This bear was bested only by a 624-pound bear that was hit
by a vehicle and killed in Naples.
FWC biologists took
hair examples and gave the bear and exam. The large male had been
feeding from residential trash cans and eventually pulled aluminum
siding off a shed while searching for food.
Wildlife officials estimate there are 3,500 black bears in Florida.
