Ellenton, Florida - It's what could become the new normal, Ellenton Premium Outlets opened up earlier this year, which forced some people to skip out on Thanksgiving dinner to get the best spot in line.

"[I] kind of got yelled at by our grandmother for leaving early," said shopper Ricco Fisher.

There were third generations of women waiting outside the Coach store, who said they gave up dessert to get in line so they would not miss out on the best deals.

"It's about the memories. It's really not the shopping," said Kathy Haydu-Tinyes, who waited in line with her daughters.

Her mother remembers a time when all stores were closed on Thanksgiving Day.

"[We would] watch football on television," said Jennifer Bailey.

Then there are the store employees who make this possible.

At least one of them told us she feared retailers would continue to push times further into turkey day.

"If it does get earlier, like 5 or 6 o'clock, I won't work," said retailer employee Ashlei Lindhout.

The late evening retail start-time has even inspired some who would normally skip black-Friday shopping.

"We're here because hopefully it's not going to be quite as bad as tomorrow morning," said Natalia Dunnett.

Ellenton Premium Outlets modified its hours for the Thanksgiving weekend to accommodate shoppers. The schedule is as follows:

  • Fri, Nov 29: Midnight-10pm (many stores will open at 8pm on Thu, Nov 28)
  • Sat, Nov 30: 8am-10pm
  • Sun, Dec 1: 9am-8pm
