Indian Shores, FL -- Beverly Young says her late husband, Representative C.W. Bill Young knew who he wanted to replace him in Congress. She says her husband wanted David Jolly, his former attorney, to follow in his footsteps.

"He asked David to fight the fight for him and carry on what he does, and carry on what I do with the troops," Beverly Young said on Thursday.

"This was Bill's wish. This is my wish," Young said before Jolly formally announced that he was jumping into the Congressional race to replace the Republican icon.

Beverly Young says her husband told Jolly of his wishes two days before he passed.

Speaking outside of the Indian Shores Municipal Center, Jolly told those gathered that he was "humbled and proud" to run for the District 13 office.

While outlining the reasons why he is running, Jolly also took a swipe at Democratic candidate Alex Sink, who is moving into Pinellas County for the race.

"This race is about Pinellas County and this race is about ensuring that somebody from Pinellas County is elected to represent our communities and our neighbors," Jolly said.

On the same day Jolly announced he'd be running, two other Republicans said they would not be jumping into the race. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri and former Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard said the timing was not right for a Congressional campaign.

The primary for the Congressional race is January 14th while the General Election is scheduled for March 11th.

"We are going to win this race," Jolly proclaimed. "But we are going to win this race the right way. We are going to win this race on substance. We're going to win this race based on the qualifications of the candidates that stand before the people of Pinellas County, and ask for their support and ask for their vote."
