Largo, Florida - Congressman Bill Young's casket was flag draped; fitting for a man who served his country for decades.

And indeed, speakers during Thursday's service talked of Young's dedication to the United States and his zeal for helping those in the military, especially wounded warriors.

"We will never forget his love and care for those who protect and defend our nation," Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) told the gathering.

And U.S. Marine Corps Commandant, Gen. James Amos said, "He knew if America was to remain the land of the free, that Americans must take care of their brave."

Young was the longest serving Representative in Congress and during his 42 years in Washington he earned the respect of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. He was known for both his passion and politeness.

"That life of service will never be forgotten," said Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ). "From the back row of the House chamber Bill Young had a front row seat to history."

However, the service was not all about Young's public accomplishments. Friend and Pastor Emeritus at First Baptist, Charlie Martin spoke of the 82-year-old's Christian faith. "Bill is on the other shore as the angles are waiting to welcome him home," he told those filling church seats.

And from the many photographs of Young hugging his kids and grandchildren, it was easy to see that family was a central part of Young's life. He will be mourned by those at home, a community and a country.
