St. Petersburg, Florida - The importance of a caregiver is often times underestimated. But a local event is making a difference by giving caregivers the information and support they need.

It's a day dedicated to those, who dedicate their lives to others.

"It's very difficult for people to understand what a caregiver goes through, unless you go through it. And I can say that 100 percent," says Nikki Davis, whose husband suffered a brain injury during a surgery.

She's at "The New Age of Caregiving symposium" to get information to help her. Her husband is a veteran, and while he's extremely physical, there are challenges.

"Every day is different with him. His behaviors, his moods, his brain and the things that go on in his body are just so strange and different to deal with."

The annual symposium gives people like Nikki some answers.

"To help the caregiver have the information, resources and guidance that they so desperately need to face the challenges of caregiving," says Kim Linder, a radio talk show host and woman behind the symposium.

And they'll get some pampering.

"They get to have that massage, they get to have the healing touch," says Linder.

Nikki wants to learn the legalities of being a caregiver and guardian and to meet others who are in the same shoes.

"It's amazing how much information you can gather talking to another caregiver because they've gone through something similar or they've figured out something you're going to eventually go through."

And as she learns new ways to care for her husband, for a few hours, she's the one that's being taken care of.
