Diena Thompson, mother of slain child Somer Thompson
ORANGE PARK, Fla. (AP) — The mother of a slain 7-year-old is trying not to get her hopes up over the recent arrest of a man on child pornography charges that could be linked to her daughter's case.
Diena's Thompson's attorney, Michael Freed, told The Associated Press on Friday his client is optimistic the arrest will help bring closure to the case, but doesn't want to overreact prematurely.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office has named Jarred Mitchell Harrell as a person of interest in the case on Thursday. He has been arrested on 29 charges of possession of child pornography.
Somer Thompson disappeared Oct. 19 as she walked home from school in Orange Park.
Her body was found two days later in a Georgia landfill.
Freed called the case "an emotional roller coaster" for Somer's mother.
