Workers remove tarps covering Tropicana Field's highest seating ahead of Game 5 of the 2010 ALDS against the Texas Rangers.
St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Rays have decided they want more cowbell for Tuesday night's ALDS game 5 against the Texas Rangers, so they've removed the tarps covering 5,000 upper level seats inside Tropicana Field.
"As soon as (Sunday's) game was over, the switch board and everything kind of blew up," said Rays spokesman Rick Vaughn. "So we made the decision to go ahead and pull the tarps."
The last time the tarps were removed was during the 2008 play-offs. With the additional 5,000 seats, the Rays are expecting a crowd of more than 40,000 Tuesday night. It will be the team's biggest home crowd of the season.
Vaughn notes some of the seats that were opened up Monday have partially obstructed views and cost $30 each.
Should the Rays win on Tuesday, Vaughn also says the tarps will remain off for any future post-season games this year.
First pitch Tuesday night is 8:07 p.m.
