SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The famous flock of wild parrots that call San Francisco home is about 300 strong, more than triple what it was 10 years ago. But that is good and bad news for the birds.

A local companion bird rescue group is being inundated with wild parrots that need care, from fledgings that crash and break a wing or leg, to birds stricken by illness, to those injured by predators.

The rescue group, The Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, has 18 wild parrots that volunteers are fostering until adoptive homes can be found, more than it has ever had at any one time.

A coordinator with the rescue group says they're taking in more birds, but finding fewer adoptive homes.

In all, the group has 225 birds of all kinds waiting to be adopted.
