GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Four young people were killed on a highway north of New York City when their car drifted from the road, traveled 100 yards on a grassy shoulder then slammed into a bridge abutment and caught fire.

State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra said the accident occurred about 5:20 a.m. Sunday on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh, about 20 miles north of New York City. The cause was not yet known.

He said the rental Volkswagen Golf burst into flames after veering off the road and slamming into a bridge abutment by an overpass.

Police identified the victims as the driver, 19-year-old Bruno Vaccarezza of Cos Cob, Conn.; 19-year-old Fernanda Gomez and 18-year-old Juliana Restrepo, both of Port Chester, N.Y.; and 20-year-old Vincent Mendoza of Norwalk, Conn.
