Boston, MA (Sports Network/USA TODAY) - New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was reportedly tied to a man who was found dead Monday night.

The body of Odin Lloyd was found near Hernandez's home in North Attleboro, Mass. on Monday night. Police have begun the investigation as a homicide and met with Hernandez at his home on Tuesday and Wednesday.

FOX-25 in Boston cited a law enforcement source as saying that Hernandez and Lloyd were with two other men at a bar in Boston on the night of the homicide and left together in a vehicle driven by Hernandez. The report said it is still unclear as to what happened afterward.

Sports Illustrated first broke the story on Tuesday, saying Hernandez was questioned by Massachusetts state police in its investigation. According to, police have connected a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban rented in Hernandez's name with the homicide of Lloyd.

Hernandez has spent three seasons with the Patriots. He set career highs of 79 catches, 910 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during his Pro Bowl season of 2011, then played in just 10 games due to injuries last year and finished with 51 receptions for 483 yards with five touchdowns.

Hernandez in previous night club incident

USA TODAY has learned that Hernandez was recently involved in a Providence, Rhode Island night club incident during which a man ditched a gun.

According to the report of the incident, dated May 18, Hernandez was being harassed for several blocks by the subject, who yelled out, "(Expletive) the Patriots. I'm a Jets fan."

Fearing the situation would escalate as Hernandez was being followed by a large crowd, police intervened and detained several subjects who had been following Hernandez to his vehicle, according to the report, which indicates police allowed Hernandez to leave the scene.

Police say they then spotted a "heavy-set black male" discard a firearm under a vehicle. The man fled, but police say they seized the weapon, a .22-caliber Jimenez with no round in the chamber and several cartridges in the magazine. The report does not indicate whether the man was with Hernandez at the club.
