Video: John's Pass residents believe parents picked area on purpose

Amber Alert UPDATE: Hillsborough deputies say Joshua Hakken -- who abducted his two non-custodial children in Tampa -- was last seen taking his family into the Gulf of Mexico aboard this sailboat.

John's Pass, Florida - It's hard to imagine running from the law in a sailboat, but the Hakkens are doing just that.

The Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office says the parents are wanted for allegedly kidnapping their little boys, Chase and Cole. The mother and father did not have custody.

Surveillance photos were released from  John's Pass showing the 25-foot Morgan sailboat named "Salty" leaving a dock. The parents, Joshua and Sharyn Hakken, are seen on board. Detectives believe the couple left just hours after the kidnapping.

Neighbors say they've seen the sailboat. Now the question is: where is the boat and where are the children?

David Class, a resident, told 10 News, "I believe they had nowhere to go. They tried to blend in here with all the people. That's my theory."

Bonnie Hart, a longtime resident, says it breaks her heart to see the children in danger. "If the parents are listening, please turn yourselves in for the children's safety."

Authorities believe the boat could be anywhere from Pensacola to the Florida Keys.  The couple bought the sailboat only a few weeks ago, sources say, and had only made a down payment.

Now deputies from multiple counties are searching for the parents and the little boys as part of a nationwide Amber Alert.  The weather could have also made conditions dangerous in the last few days for the mother and father and their kids.
