SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A powerful state board charged with cleaning Utah's air is taking aim at Burger King and other restaurants that flame broil their hamburgers.

The Utah Air Quality Board adopted a regulation Wednesday that requires restaurants with belt-driven hamburger broilers to install emissions controls by September.

Regulators say flame broilers are notorious for contributing to smog.

The Air Quality Board also acted Wednesday to ban sales of wood-burning boilers that some people use to heat houses.

The regulations are taking effect in a five-county area of northern Utah that's experiencing another severe air pollution episode this week.
