St. Petersburg, Florida - Army Specialist Brittany Gordon of St. Petersburg was killed in Afghanistan on October 13. She was 24. Gordon graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 2006 and was captain of the girls' basketball team. Monday evening her basketball jersey was retired.

While Brittany enjoyed basketball friends and family she was the ultimate student athlete. She was an honor student, played the piano and saxophone and took part in the marching band.

Her former coach, Stephanie Swenson says, "She gave the ultimate sacrifice that you hope other kids will respect."

Brittany's father Cedric Gordon says, "There's probably not a minute that goes by that I don't think about her."

Cedric Gordon is the Assistant Police Chief for the St. Pete Police Department.

He adds, "I hope that they remember how competitive she was, how humble she was, how loving she was and how much she loved her country and how much she loved St. Pete High Green Devils."

Meanwhile, Brittany's mother says she's grateful for the memories they had on the hardwood. She says the gym was her daughter's home away from home and the place their daughter perfected her leadership skills.

Cedric says, "When I hear from her command staff - that she went out on as many as 30 missions that's unprecedented for a woman."

Cedric says his daughter begged to go out on missions.
