TAMPA, Fla. -- The FBI agent involved in the General David Petraeus scandal has made headlines before.

Frederick Humphries, who lives in Dover, reportedly shot and killed a man at the front gate of MacDill Air Force Base after authorities said the man charged after him with a knife. This happened back in May 2010. According to authorities, Humphries took "defensive action."

Jill Kelley first went to the 47-year-old agent, who is her friend, about the threatening emails from General Petraeus' mistress, Paula Broadwell. We know the first anonymous email in the case was sent to General John Allen. That was then forwarded to Jill Kelley. There were as many as five of those emails, at least one of them sent to Humphries, who initially launched the investigation.

Humphries is reportedly a veteran counter-terrorism investigator and helped start the investigation that led to the resignation of General Petraeus. But according to the Wall Street Journal, Humphries was dismissed from the case because supervisors became concerned he may have grown obsessed with it. Also, FBI officials found Humphries sent shirtless pictures of himself to Kelley.

There are reports that the shirtless picture Humphries sent to Kelley was sent as a joke and it was sent years before this scandal.
