Seffner, FL-- The family of a Bay Area woman said they are happy and relieved her accused murderer, her own husband, has now been caught.
Christopher Belcher was taken into custody Thursday in Greenville, South Carolina at his sister's home. He was on the run for more than a week.
According to detectives with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Christopher killed his wife Gwendolyn Belcher and burned her body in her own car.
"I cried tears of joy instead of tears of sadness," said one of Gwendolyn's daughters, Rekale Hill.
Gwendolyn was reported missing September 16. That same day, deputies found her remains in the car off of Taylor Road in Seffner. It was just a few miles from where they lived along Pine Street.
According to the criminal investigation report, one of Christopher's daughters told detectives he got into an argument with Gwendolyn September 15, accusing her of cheating.
She stated that she saw her father hit his wife and later heard screams, beating noises, and sounds as if Gwendolyn was gasping for breath.
"It hurt me to just know that you did that to her. I want to look him in his face and I know the day is going to come. I just wish he can just tell us- you lost your mind- something. You know, something," said Gwendolyn's sister, Khadijah Dowdy.
Gwendolyn's family said they want her husband and accused killer to pay.
"I want him to spend the rest of his life in jail. I don't want him to get the death penalty, execution. I want him to sit in jail. I want him to suffer, so he can think about what he did. Like he murdered her and she suffered, I want him to suffer," said Hill.
Detectives said Belcher should be brought back to Hillsborough County within a week or so. He is being charged with Second Degree Murder and Arson.
