(CBS/AP) CLEVELAND - Prosecutors have asked a judge to lock up the remaining nine defendants still free following their convictions in beard- and hair-cutting attacks on fellow Amish in Ohio.

Seven other defendants have been jailed without bond since their arrests.

In a motion filed Friday in Cleveland federal court, prosecutors say the defendants out on bond have no likelihood of winning new trials, so the violent crimes deserve pre-sentencing lockup.

The defense has until next Thursday to respond. One defense attorney, Brian Pierce, says his client has no prior criminal record, has followed court schedules and should be allowed to remain free on bond.

With the defendants including six couples, prison terms could leave up to 50 children with one or both parents behind bars.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 24.
