OLD BETHPAGE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a live grenade was found amid a box of items left outside a Long Island recycling center.
The discovery at the town of Oyster Bay sorting facility in Old Bethpage was made by a town employee on Tuesday morning. It had been left at a drop-off location set aside for latex paint products outside the facility entrance.
Officials have no information on where it came from.
The Nassau County bomb squad retrieved the grenade, which was later determined to be live. It was detonated safely at a police bunker.
