Hillsborough County, FL -- Deputies made an arrest in the September 13 homicide where a beloved mother's body was found in a burned van in southern Hillsborough County. Cuc Thu Tran disappeared around the same time a car fire was reported in her neighborhood.
Tran's son reported her missing after she failed to come home after a morning jog. Firefighters found a burning van on Bullfrog Court with her body inside. She died as a result of stab wounds.
On September 20, 2007, one item of evidence provided significant information. A Crime Laboratory Analyst discovered and identified the evidence found on the deceased. This evidence was ultimately identified to the below individual.
The suspect was initially identified as a person of interest on Tuesday September 18, 2007. Detectives were in the process of handing out (Crime Stoppers 1-800-873-TIPS) flyers throughout the Grandview MHP and the surrounding neighborhoods and business district. A witness provided the first name of Kenny with a physical description. The witness alluded that this Kenny was talking about the murder the previous night and made statements of facts that were not released to the media. Additionally, Kenny may have just recently been released from state prison.
Detectives identified the below person and eventually made contact with him in Carrabelle, FL. After his consent this person provided a DNA sample. The sample was delivered to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Friday September 21, 2007.
The Crime Labatory Analyst identified the below individual as the contributor of the evidence found on the victim. This information as well as the person's alibi was reviewed with the Hillsborough State Attorney's Office and arrest warrants were issued.
Detectives traveled to Carrabelle, Fl on September 26 and arrested Kenneth Ray Jackson without incident at a location along the Carabelle River.
Tampa Bay's 10 News
