Fireworks accident at USF football game

Tampa, FL -- Joseph Castonguay, 28, a pyrotechnician was seriously injured when a fireworks device went off in his face.

The inicident happened around 7pm this evening inside the Raymond James Stadium. Castonguay, was setting up for the opening USF Bulls football game when the set of 6 to 10 devices went off, striking him directly in the face and upper body.

He was treated on scene then transported Tampa General Hospital. He has 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his face, arms, and chest. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The Tampa Fire Marshal Inspector reports that the devices are normally triggered from a wireless remote. The inicident is under investigation.

The fireworks display was cancelled earlier Saturday evening.
