St. Petersburg, Florida- Investigators with the St. Petersburg Police Department say the medical examiner has so far been unable to determine a cause of death for either 39 year old Paula O'Conner or her 15 month old son AJ. Both were found dead Friday morning in their home on Dawson Avenue in Northeast St. Petersburg.
Friday afternoon, police began questioning O'Conner's ex-boyfriend, Ralph Wright who she says fathered her son while married to another woman. O'Conner and her St. Petersburg attorney were in the process of trying to force Wright into providing DNA for a paternity test when she went missing Friday.
Wright, who police say has not been named a suspect, is a security forces reserve officer on active duty at MacDill Air Force base in Tampa. He also served for six months with the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando.
Detectives say signs of a struggle were discovered in O'Conner's home and for that reason they are working the case as a double homicide. They are especially intererested in speaking to anyone who might have seen someone drive away in O'Conner's late model Chevy Trail Blazer last Friday morning. The vehicle has a Save Wild Dolphins specialty plate and was found parked at an apartment complex on 1st Street not far from the crime scene.
Anyone who might have seen the person driving the Trail Blazer or who has information on the case is urged to call St. Petersburg Police at 727-893-7780.
Paula detailed her story on a website, military deadbeat dads.com, created before she died.
