Plant City, Florida - Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder, Elijah Dukes, has agreed to stay away from his wife.
Dukes and his wife, NiShea Gilbert, agreed to a one-year injunction Wednesday morning at a Hillsborough County courtroom in Plant City. Dukes did not attend the hearing.
Gilbert filed a petition for a temporary injunction after Dukes showed up at the school where she teaches, back in April. Hillsborough County deputies described him as being very irate at the time. Investigators say Dukes later left a message on his wife's cell phone, threatening to kill her and the children.
Dukes will have a psychological examination before visitation rights are determined.
After the hearing, Gilbert had a message to women in similar situations: she told them to speak up and get help. Click "Video Interview" to see Gilbert speaking to reporters outside of the courtroom.
