Miami, Florida - With Easter less than two weeks away, animal rights groups want parents to reconsider buying pet rabbits for their children.
Dana Krempels is president of the National House Rabbit Society's Miami chapter. She says children quickly get tired of the animals, and the rabbits are either returned to the pet store or abandoned in a field.
The rabbit society has launched a "Make Mine Chocolate" campaign to discourage Easter-time rabbit adoption.
The campaign's goal is to limit the number of unwanted former Easter rabbits that overrun shelters and humane societies.
