TAMPA, Fla. — Former Denver defensive coordinator Larry Coyer was hired today as assistant head coach and defensive line coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Coyer spent the last seven seasons with the Broncos, including the past four as defensive coordinator. He was fired this month, less than two weeks after Denver concluded the season by losing five of its final seven games and missing the playoffs.
During his tenure as defensive coordinator, the Broncos made the playoffs three times. Denver began the 2006 season by not allowing a touchdown for 11 consecutive quarters, the longest stretch at the start of a season since 1942.
