Brandon, Florida-- There's new information in the hit and run accident in Brandon that killed a 59-year-old woman walking her dog.

Hillsborough Sheriff Deputies have said only the driver was in the car, and that there were no passengers as witnesses as first described.

Shelley Grimes' husband usually takes their dog out for a walk but on Saturday night, Shelley offered to do it. Deputies say as she crossed Providence Ridge Road Boulevard at Providence Road, she was struck and killed by a car, and the driver took off.

Hillsborough Sheriff Deputies said that driver Robert Winsor turned himself in Monday night.

Winsor posted a $17,000 bond early this morning. He's charged with leaving the scene of a deadly crash and tampering with evidence. Deputies say Winsor tried cleaning off his 2013 black Chrysler 300.

"At this point there is no indication alcohol is involved. Don't know why he left- I think sometimes people get scared and leave the scene," said Debbie Carter, a spokesperson with the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office.

A neighbor living at Winsor's apartment complex, Plantation Oaks, tipped off investigators, "that there was a vehicle there that had damage consistent with the crash," said Carter.

Deputies said this is Winsor's first arrest.

10 News reached out to Winsor and stopped by his apartment where a woman answered saying"I'm not talking to anybody about anything."

We tried his parents' home and his girlfriend's house too, but no one would talk.

As for Grimes' family, her husband Dennis said he's glad Winsor turned himself in to deputies.

"It's not going to do me any good because I lost my wife, but it may help you so you don't have to live with this guilt your whole life," Dennis said.

Deputies have up to 90 days to complete their investigation.
