BARTOW, Florida (AP) - A central Florida man has been convicted of opening fire on two cars, leaving one person dead.

A Polk County jury found 24-year-old Jerry Pride Jr. guilty Monday of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. He faces a mandatory life sentence.

Authorities say 20-year-old Tibious Peterman was driving one car with a passenger and two more friends were in another car in April 2012 when Pride pulled up alongside them and started shooting, first with a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol and then .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle.

The Ledger reports that Peterman died after being hit by a .22-caliber projectile that passed through his arm and into his chest. A passenger in the other car was shot in the leg, but survived. The other two men were not injured.
