UPDATE: Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies located Christopher Wade Kennedy on Saturday, Sept. 21, at a home on SB Merrion Road, in north Lakeland.
He was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released for injuries he sustained in the crash he fled from the night before.
All victims of the crash have been updated to stable, with the exception of Charles Clendenin who remains very critical.
LAKELAND, Florida -- Polk County deputies are searching for a man who they say fled the scene of a car crash in Lakeland on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.
The Polk Co. Sheriff's Office says 47-year-old Christopher Wade Kennedy was driving a 1990 gold Acura Legend at a high rate of speed on Lewellyn Road at around 10:23 p.m. when he struck a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero driven by 24-year-old Calep Meade.
The impact reportedly caused the Acura to slide under the Oldsmobile, causing the Oldsmobile to roll several times before landing upside down in a drainage ditch.
According to witnesses, Kennedy borrowed a flashlight from them after the crash so he could check on the people in his car; however, the sheriff's office says he fled the scene prior to the arrival of emergency responders.
Kennedy's two passengers were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in stable condition. Mead's three passengers were also taken to the hospital. One is in serious but stable condition; the third passenger is critical.
Meade is in serious but stable condition. Deputies believe Kennedy has a head injury.
Kennedy is described as being approximately 6'1" tall and approximately 180 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes.
