Inverness, Florida -- A father who took off with his two daughters last week has been found in Montana.
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office says 45-year-old Edward Peters was taken into custody without incident early Thursday morning. Deputies say his kids, 6-year-old McKala Peters and 11-year-old Madison were with him and are said to be OK.
Employees at a Montana gas station reported someone filled up and drove off without paying on Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle matched the description of one stolen in Michigan, where Peters' vehicle was found abandoned on Sunday.
Peters was found by a Sweet Grass County, Montana deputy who was patrolling the remote area of Prairie Dog State Park near the town of Greycliff. The deputy noticed a parked SUV that matched the description of the stolen vehicle, and found Peters and his daughters asleep inside.
Authorities believe Peters was using remote camping areas to conceal his location from police.
Peters allegedly took the girls from their court-ordered guardian on September 8.
He is currently waiting extradition in the Gallatin County detention facility in Bozman, Montana. Arrangements are being made to return his daughters to Florida. It is unclear at this time who will take custody of their children upon their arrival.
