Weed told police his pickup truck may have been involved in the crash that left 25-year-old Rob Lemon dead and his 27-year-old girlfriend Hilary Michalak critically injured.

Clearwater, Florida -- Christopher Weed's teal pickup is bashed and battered and mysteriously missing its windshield.

Clearwater police say the Nissan hit a tandem bike shortly after 6:00 a.m. on Labor Day on Memorial Causeway. Rob Lemon, 25, died from his injuries and his girlfriend Hilary Michalak, 27, remains in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center.

A spokeswoman for the hospital says family members gathered there did not wish to speak with the media.

Even though there's been an arrest in the case, police want to hear from anyone who saw Weed's truck.

"Our hope is that anyone who might have seen this suspect driving before the accident or immediately thereafter might have seen something we want to know about and would call us," said Clearwater Police Spokesman Rob Shaw.

Weed was arrested on Tuesday night. Police had been tipped off that he was the driver, but Weed himself came to police on Tuesday. He told them his truck might have been involved in the accident. But Weed claimed to have blacked out on his way home from work at Shephard's Beach Resort.

"He was working, he got off from work and that's all he could remember," Chief Anthony Holloway said at a news conference Tuesday night.

Weed made his first appearance in court Wednesday afternoon. He's charged with two felonies; leaving the scene of a deadly accident and leaving one involving serious injuries.

Bikers along Memorial Causeway on Wednesday expressed relief that there'd been an arrest, while Shephard's had no comment.

In the meantime, the hit-and-run investigation continues and police are hoping someone comes up with a big piece of missing evidence -- the truck's windshield.
