(USA TODAY) -- The big celeb news of the morning: Michael Douglas, 68, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, 43, are separating.
People magazine reports the star couple is "taking a break" after almost 13 years.
The two haven't been seen together since April, and in recent days he's been relaxing on a yacht and playing golf in Sardinia, while Zeta-Jones is at home in New York, says the magazine.
They have had a rough few years, weathering his battle with throat cancer and her battle with bipolar II disorder.
And most recently, his comments about HPV
possibly causing his cancer are said to have not gone over well with
her. He issued a statement clarifying that he was not saying he got it
In recent days, celeb rags have been buzzing about a divorce. The Aug. 12 edition of Star magazine claimed Douglas had moved out.
and Zeta-Jones, who have two children - Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10 -
decided to spend time apart soon after he came back from the Cannes Film
Festival in May, according to the report.
People says neither side has filed divorce papers. And "those close to the couple hold out hope" the two can work things out.
Reps for both stars have not yet responded to USA TODAY's request for comment.
