ORLANDO, Florida (AP) - A retired Polk County newspaper publisher has joined his father in the Florida Newspaper Hall of Fame.
S.L. Frisbie IV was inducted during Thursday night ceremonies in Orlando. Frisbie retired as publisher of the Polk County Democrat in 2009. His father, Loyal Frisbie, was inducted into the hall in 1989.
In the commendation marking his award, S.L. Frisbie was cited as a mentor to young journalists and as a champion of community journalism, bringing government news to his readers through humor, wit and hard news reporting.
Frisbie still writes editorials and columns for The Democrat from the same office his father used.
