Tampa, Florida - It's National STD Awareness Month, and in honor, the Hillsborough County division of the Florida Department of Health will offer free HIV and STD tests on Monday, April 29.
According to department reps, one in two sexually active people will get an STD by the age of 25...and most won't even know it.
They say the only way to find out is by getting tested, which is why they're making that as easy as possible.
All of the details are as follows:
- Date: April 29, 2013
- Time: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Location: 1105 E. Kennedy Blvd. Tampa 33605
With statistics like those above, Hillsborough residents, especially those under 25, likely can't afford not
to take advantage of this free opportunity.
And if those numbers are not convincing enough, the department has provided a few other facts worth considering:
- HIV and AIDS have not gone away. Approximately 15 Floridians become infected with HIV every day.
- Not all STDs have symptoms, making testing the only way to know for sure if you have been infected.
- Anyone having sex is at risk of contracting an STD- Genital herpes, chlamydia, HPV, HIV, syphilis, and gonorrhea affect men, women and teens from all walks of life.
