TAMPA, Florida (AP) - The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority has voted to approve a new $2.5 billion master plan for Tampa International Airport, charting a course for how it will expand and handle growth in the coming years and decades.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the Authority approved the plan Thursday.

The first phase of construction is expected to be completed around 2017.

That phase involves building a consolidated rental car facility, a new automated people mover, commercial development, restaurant and retail space, and maybe someday, a new airport hotel.

Eventually, officials will expand the main terminal and build a new international airside.
