ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - With Tampa under a boil water notice through Sunday afternoon, don't forget about your pets.

We talked with Dr. Tony Ishak from BluePearl Veterinary Partners about how to care for your pets during this time.

He says to treat them the same way you would yourself or your family; boil water before you give it to your animals.

"A lot of the bacteria out there, salmonella, e-coli, some of the things we hear about regularly on the news, can affect people and animals, and you don't want your animals to get sick from the water. And if your animals get sick, you don't want to then get sick from them getting sick."

Dr. Ishak says if your pet drinks contaminated water and starts to get sick, call your vet immediately.
