Polk County, FL-- It was a long drive from Tampa to the Streamsong Resort, in southern Polk County.. about 75 miles, and over an hour and a half of driving. But when you finally get to Streamsong, it is spectacular golf.
The Red Course at Streamsong Resort in southern Polk County, has been named the best new golf course you can play, by Golf Magazine. The Blue Course made honorable mention.
The Mosaic Company developed the property. It was a phosphate mine. They hired 3 prominent golf course architects.. the team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, along with Tom Doak. The courses are marked by giant sand hills, large lakes, and a minimalist landscape.
"Streamsong is entirely unique to the state of Florida," golf course architect and 2-time Masters champ Ben Crenshaw told 10 News. "Especially because of the terrain."
"It's different out here," said Architect Tom Doak. "And I don't anyone knows what to expect when they come out here. Clients ask us to describe the courses, and you can't do it in a few words. It's more complicated than that. We just want people to come out and see for themselves. We think they'll be surprised by what they find."
The Streamsong Resort is open to the public. The lodge is still under construction, although there are 12 guest rooms available in the clubhouse, along with a steakhouse and lounge, and a golf shop.
Greens fees are $175. Caddies are available.
