Tampa, Florida -- As two men sit in jail charged with the robbery and shooting of a Tampa taxi driver, the victim, 42-year-old Annuel Delicieux, recovers at home.
Annuel told 10 News he had three surgeries to repair the damage and still has bullet fragments in his right arm.
"The bullet came in my left arm, through my chest, and blew out my right arm," he said.
He wears a brace in his right arm for support since he can only lift his arm to his shoulders and slightly move his fingers.
After dropping off a passenger at 3 a.m. on Dec. 18, Annuel said the two men circled his car. One of them pointed a shotgun in his face from the driver's side window and, he said, he did what he was told.
"Yes, I gave him the money and he told me to drop the money on the floor. I dropped the money and then he shot me."
Cabbie hands over money, robber shoots anyway
Dazed and losing blood, Annuel drove off and spotted a police car. He then passed out behind the wheel, just before crashing his cab into the officer's patrol unit.
"God sent the police to me. I was so lucky. If the police didn't come, I would have died," he said.
Relatives: 'Thank God' taxi driver survived shooting
Police arrested 21-year-old Ricky Offutt and the alleged shooter 33-year-old Kelin Johnson. Both men face several charges including attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping.
"I feel, the man, he doesn't have God in him," Annuel said about Johnson. "As for me, I need justice. I did not deserve this."
Annuel, a Haitian immigrant, a husband and father of three young daughters, including a 3-month-old baby, said Johnson has changed his life for the worst. He now is faced with a year of physical therapy to help him regain use of his arm. In the meantime, he can't work.
"I don't worry about myself. God took care of me by not letting me die. I worry about my kids and wife."
Right now, Annuel and his family are depending on help from friends and family and their church. Anyone who would like to help can contact Pastor Charlie at the Siloe Haitian Baptist Church in Tampa 813-562-2257.
