Palm Harbor, Florida -- With Halloween just a few weeks away, haunted houses will be opening up soon. East Lake Fire Rescue is once again adding an important lesson to the scares at its Haunted Fire House.
Station 57, located at 3375 Tarpon Lake Blvd. in Palm Harbor, is being transformed into the Haunted Fire House for a second year. But this year, firefighters promise it will be bigger, better and scarier.
"This year's a lot different, we've really uppted the ante quite a bit," said District Chief Bill Edling. "I think people who were here last year will be pleasantly surprised this year."
One thing that hasn't changed at the Haunted Fire House is its theme. Among all of the scares is an important messge about the dangers of texting and driving.
"We figured this was a good way to bring a serious message to light and have a little fun with it," said Edling. "This year we're actually bringing an accident scene inside."
The Haunted Fire House's first year attracted about 3500 people. East Lake Fire Rescue expects 5000-6000 this year. The Haunted Fire House will be open every Friday and Saturday night in October from 7:00-10:00pm. A donation of $5 is suggested.
