The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation will hold the One Step Closer to the Cure 5K and 1-mile race presented by Rob Bowen Design Group on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 7:30am. The activities will start and finish at Albert Whitted Park in St. Petersburg, with the certified race course following the beautiful downtown waterfront.
This year, Bull Fitness presents an additional race, Overcoming Obstacles that features a variety of fitness challenges along the 5K race course. Participants have the option of doing the 5K race, 1-mile fun run, Overcoming Obstacles, or a "Challenge" that includes two or more races. For those who prefer to be there in spirit, they can participate as a virtual runner. Ovarian cancer survivors and patients are encouraged to participate with free race entry. Families are invited to join in the fun with free kids' activities in the park.
The 5K is chip timed and prizes will be awarded to the top male/female finishers. Special medals are awarded to all participants that complete Overcoming Obstacles, Celma's Challenge and Celma's Mini Challenge. Corporate and individual sponsorships are still available, and participants and teams may collect pledges to raise addition funds for the cure.
Early registration for the 5K is $35, one-mile is $25, Overcoming Obstacles is $50 and additional race categories are available on the website. Prices increase after August 24, 2012. Walk up registrations will be available at the St. Petersburg Fit2Run on September 1, the Packet Pick-up Party at Hooters on 4th St. on September 13, 2012 from 5-8pm, at Fit2Run-St. Pete on September 14, 2012 from 4-8pm, and on race morning.
One-hundred percent of proceeds go toward the goals of the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, which are: to support research, education, early detection and prevention, and provide financial assistance to patients in the Tampa Bay area.
