Tropical Storm Isaac may be crashing one of the biggest events in Tampa Bay history: the Republican National Convention.

While the storm develops, work continues inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum. National Weather Service officials say they are in contact with RNC officials two to three times a day.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service will be inside the RNC's Emergency Operations Center 24/7 starting this Friday and stay through the end of the convention next week.

"We are working closely with state, federal and local authorities," says Kyle Downey, Press Secretary for the RNC. He adds, "We have contingency plans in place for multiple scenarios. As far as the decision making process goes we will keep that to ourselves for now."

Tampa city leaders say in case of a storm the decision is an easy one. Mayor Bob Buckhorn says city leaders and RNC officials will decide together what the options are for the safety of local residents and Tampa visitors.

National Weather Service officials say if the storm comes this way and residents need to evacuate, hotels are booked with RNC guests.  They recommend residents in evacuation zones come up with another plan.
