APOLLO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay area man has been convicted of setting his estranged wife on fire, leaving her severely burned.

A Hillsborough County jury found 46-year-old Christopher Hanney guilty Thursday of attempted murder, aggravated battery and arson. He faces a possible life sentence.

Hanney's wife, 29-year-old Audrey Mabrey, had moved out of the couple's Apollo Beach home but stopped by in November 2009. Prosecutors say Hanney doused his wife with gasoline and set her on fire because she was divorcing him.

An attorney for the former New York City detective told jurors that Mabrey and an unknown accomplice attacked Hanney, and Mabrey was accidentally burned during the attack.
