Largo police say when they got there, Cavalieri was walking around, saying a black vehicle cut him off and he lost control.

Witnesses told police a different story.

"We have no evidence of that. In fact, we have witnesses saying he was passing other cars on Indian Rocks [Road], flicking them off," said Sgt. Ryan Dulski, a traffic homicide detective with the Largo Police Department. Witnesses also told police Cavalieri's car was driving recklessly before the crash.

Police say in Cavalieri's car, passenger Thomas Williams, 25, died on impact.  Passenger Sean Wilson, 22, died at the hospital while a third passenger, Timothy Talbot, 23, is on life support with life-threatening injuries.

Cavalieri himself suffered serious injury, but is expected to be recover. Investigators say alcohol was a factor in the crash and criminal charges against Cavalieri are expected.

The driver of the other vehicle, David Maynard, was on his way to work at Morton Plant Mease Hospital. He suffered serious injuries in the crash.

The crash happened right in front of a memorial sign that reads, "Don't Drink & Drive, In Memory of Joshua Paul Naylor." Naylor was one of two teenagers killed in a crash almost exactly six years earlier, on the night of December 28, 2005.
