Clearwater, Florida -- Tampa Bay goes Hollywood this weekend with the release of the new film "Dolphin Tale" starring Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick, Jr. and Ashley Judd.
"Dolphin Tale" is based on the true story of Winter the dolphin, from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Winter lost her tail in a crab trap accident. She faced the very real possibility of dying until doctors fitted her with a prosthetic tail.
The film is directed and co-written by Charles Martin Smith, who may be best know as an actor from films like "American Graffiti" and "Never Cry Wolf."
10 News Morning Show anchor Ginger Gadsden talked to Smith about making the film.
"Dolphin Tale" opens Friday in both 3D and 2D versions.
