TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) - A Hall of Fame for Florida veterans is going to have to wait.
Gov. Rick Scott withdrew himself from consideration Thursday after learning his name had been put forward with 21 other Florida governors to be inducted into the newly created Hall of Fame. Scott told aides he did not believe it was appropriate for a sitting governor to be considered.
Doug Darling, a retired marine lieutenant colonel and a top Scott adviser, said Thursday the proposal to create such a Hall of Fame has been pulled off next week's Cabinet agenda, so officials can do as better job finding more representative veterans.
No Medal of Honor winner was originally recommended, including Florida resident and former Air Force Col. Bud Day, one of the most decorated men in military history.
