Hillsborough County Attorney Renee Lee
Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough County Attorney Renee Lee has lost her job. Commissioners say they have lost confidence in Lee following a series of missteps.
The Commission voted 7-0 Thursday to fire Lee, and pay half her salary and benefits at $156,014.
The attorney's termination comes after luncheons she had with former Commissioner Kevin White, who is being sued by the County. Commissioners say it was inappropriate for Lee to have contact with White, who is represented by an attorney. 10 News also uncovered Lee then lied about the meetings.
In the past two years, Lee gave legal advice that it was appropriate for a one percent raise for both her and former administrator Pat Bean. After 10 News revealed those raises, Lee and Bean were suspended with pay and eventually Bean was dismissed.
The issue led to an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. During the FDLE investigation, Lee and Bean attempted to learn who leaked the information about the raises to 10 News. The FDLE concluded Lee lied about that as well.
