NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A Newton County family says they were outraged after they discovered that someone posted their 16-year-old daughter's name and cell phone number on a pornographic website.
"My worst fear was that my daughter would become the victim of a sexual predator," Randy Upton said after a man who saw the posting began texting his daughter.
Upton says his family immediately reported the incident to police but were initially told no laws had been broken. So, Upton, a former GBI agent, contacted the district attorney's office and the GBI, who ultimately launched an investigation.
Upton says investigators were able to figure out that one of his daughter's acquaintances had posted her information on the porn site.
A GBI spokesman tells 11Alive News the investigation is nearly complete. Once it is finished, he said, the agency will turn their findings over to the district attorney.
Upton says he has changed his daughter's phone number and had her name removed from the website. He says he also plans to petition his congressman in hopes of making it a crime to publish a minor's personal information on an pornographic website.
