ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA-- Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) blasted Florida Governor Rick Scott Wednesday, calling his decision to reject about $2.4 billion in federal funding for a high speed rail project "egregious."

"Florida has the best proposal in the entire United States.  We can't afford to let this opportunity pass us by," Nelson told reporters.

The proposed rail would connect Tampa and Orlando.

Nelson said he is looking into whether the project can still be done in Florida without the state government's involvement.

He says he's talked to several lawmakers about it, including Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) of Tampa.
