St. Petersburg, Florida - The much-anticipated new Dali Museum will open in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

The museum cost $36 million to complete and will showcase 95 different Salvador Dali paintings, while the building itself is already being touted at a work of art.

In fact, AOL Travel News has listed the museum as "one of the top buildings you have to see before you die."

Internationally acclaimed architect Yann Weymouth designed the building and says he wants people to look at the outside of the museum and be prepared for what they'll encounter inside.

"Try to get you both interested, excited, heart pounding a little bit, but at the same time ready for what might be quite an important experience," Weymouth told 10 News.

The glass that seems to erupt and spill out of the building's concrete is called the "Glass Enigma." It consists of more than 900 triangular-shaped glass panels.

Weymouth notes no two glass panes are identical. The glass can withstand a Category 3 hurricane -- part of why Weymouth calls the museum a hurricane-proof "fortress."

At 66,400-square feet, the new museum is roughly twice the size of the old museum.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and the list of guests include the King and Queen of Spain's youngest daughter, S.A.R. la Infanta Cristina, Duchess of Palma de Mallorca.
