CLEARWATER, Florida -- A bottlenose dolphin calf has been brought to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium for rehabilitation, after it was found in the Indian River Lagoon on the east coast of Florida.

Around 9 a.m. Saturday, a call came into Hubbs Sea World Research Institute that the calf had been found. Hubbs staff located the dolphin by 2:30 p.m. and determined that she should be transported to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium after she was found nursing from her mother, who passed away.

At this time, the calf -- who remains unnamed -- is being kept in quarantine while an animal care team evaluates her condition. The two to three-month-old calf has suffered trauma and her condition is fragile at this time, according to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

A necropsy is being performed on the mother to determine cause of death.

This latest rescue comes just five years and one day after the rescue of Winter the dolphin, whose survival story is now being made into a major motion picture.
