Tampa, Florida -- Elections officials in Hillsborough County are blaming a computer glitch for the loss of around 38,000 votes not properly uploaded to the office's computers.

The ballots were from the last three days of early voting at the Jan Platt, New Tampa, West Tampa, West Shore, Upper Tampa Bay, Temple Terrace, and Town 'N Country polling locations.

Officials say the votes from the 38,000 ballots did not get uploaded properly with other early votes, forcing elections workers to rescan those ballots.

"We want people to know, each of those ballots is going to be counted," said Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections spokesman Travis Abercrombie.

There is no estimate on how long the lost votes will take to recount, but elections officials say they will work through the night if they have to, rescanning the ballots.
